The foot of the month: Beading Foot

Ever wanted a fast, easy, and secure way to sew beads onto a garment? Well, we have it here with the Beading foot, available in two sizes.

With the beading foot, you can attach strings of beads, pearls, and other stringed embellishments to your project with your sewing machine. Popular for bridal wear, evening wear, as well as crafts, the beading foot is essential if you love embellishing your projects.

The beading foot has a deep channel on the underside of the foot. The depth of this groove varies, so make sure you get the size to fit your needs or both! The foot is short with the groove flaring open on each side to allow you to manoeuvre the beads easily and create intricate patterns. The beads nestle in the groove on the underside of the foot and the trick is to make sure the beads are not too large for the foot.

Select a wide zig zag and increase the stitch length on your machine when you begin to sew. As with all sewing, always do a test sample to see what result you will get. Handwheel the first two or three stitches to make sure the needle position is correct, and you will not hit any beads. Depending on the weight of your fabric and your desired effect, you may need to place stabilizer under the fabric. Sew very slowly. Do not push the beads or fabric ant the front or pull beds or fabric at the back.  Allow the foot to guide the beads at its own pace.

You may like to use a monofilament thread so the stitching is invisible, or you can use a thread of a blending colour.

This month in our project, Christine also shows you some other uses for the Beading Foot to get the most value from your feet. Christine has used the foot with cords and twin needles to create multiple different embellishment ideas.
