Easter Bunny Bags

This is a great stash-buster project as you only need 30cm of outer fabric and 30cm of lining fabric. I like to use linen for the outer fabric although any medium-weight woven fabric would work well.  I have always hand embroidered their little faces, and there is a template in the pattern for this, but you could also get creative with your embroidery function on your sewing machine

These little bunny bags are perfect for egg hunting on Easter morning but also make great gift bags or toy storage bags.

What you’ll need:

  • Pfaff Sewing Machine (optional design available for embroidery machines)
  • Bunny bag template
  • 30cm main fabric (linen or cotton works well)
  • 30cm lining
  • 2 metres of 25mm ribbon
  • Stranded thread for hand stitching the face or machine embroidery thread if you are going to use your machine
  • Scissors
  • Matching thread
  • 30cm iron on interfacing

Instructions:

Step 1: Print and cut out your pattern. Cut one pair of main fabric and lining of the bag and one pair of main fabric and lining of the ears. Also cut one piece of interfacing for the bag and two ears.

Step 2: Press your interfacing to the wrong side of your outer fabric

Step 3: Draw your bunny’s face on to the right side of the interfaced outer piece. Hand embroider using a simple back stitch. If you prefer you can stitch out the face on your embroidery machine.

Alternatively, hoop the interfaced outer piece and embroider the bunny face using the free downloadable design.

Step 4: With right sides together sew the bag front to back around the curved seam leaving the top open. Repeat for the lining leaving a 5cm gap at the bottom to turn.

Step 5: Sew the ears. With one outer piece and one lining piece right sides together, stitch each ear leaving the bottom open. Clip the seams, turn right side out and press.

Step 6: stitch a button hole on each side of the outer fabric, 2cm down from the top, this will be to thread your ribbon through

Step 7: Place the bag lining inside the bag outer with right sides together. Place the ears inside the two layers on the back side (not the side you have embroidered the face) with the lining facing down

Step 8: Stitch around the top of the bag catching the ears in place. Turn right side out through the hole you left in the lining and press.

Step 9: Topstitch the top of your bag to create a channel for the ribbon. One row 1cm from the top and another 3cm from the top ensuring your buttonholes land in the centre. Stitch the hole in the lining closed.

Step 10: Cut your ribbon in to two pieces and use a safety pin to thread a piece through from each side, creating a drawstring.
